Poem 59 Revised

I opened the eye of Orion to watch the summer flicker

Downward like a fist-full of crinkled paper.

Some pique with seasons, others pique with time.

As if she eased the tips of those trees to her white-bright match

The hillside woke to embers, over and over, back to the gravel.

A child, entranced by their dance, she points them into step with

Her pink un-ringed finger. She thought perhaps

she would be more graceful. I want to tell her:

It’s falling. When you stand again, then, they will applaud.

Poem 79 Revised

A cucumber could not taste as sweet
As filature along a forgotten breeze
Coaxing chatter of weather and what-not
Across eddies—ever eager spring—comes grass.
From eye level the deep trodden grass colors
Summerness; becomes the pressure on elbows
straining this afternoon’s sweet-sour sage
On a sunbeam preferring patches by the hour.
Watch the call of autumn opals oppress
The downy undress of arbor limbs unfold.
Ticking tedious the tremble of traitor leaves.
For now it is verbena on the lawn… for now.

Poem 59

growing up sucks. we’ll get there.

I opened the eye of the universe to watch the summer flicker
Downward like a hand-full of crinkled paper.
Some are mindful of the season changes; others are simply mindful.
As if she touched the tips of those trees with her lighter
The charred essence ethereal of their descent captures me yearly.
As a child entranced as they dance she points them into step with
Her little un-ringed finger. She thought perhaps she would be more graceful;
I want to tell her: it’s falling. When you stand again, then, they will applaud.

Poem 51

tree time in just a few days

Fingerpads and fingerprints
Rest wrinkled in weaving fibers of
This pillar.
Come away come away
Come away with me
Up up… with straining, buckling
Joints to climb.
Push up. Up.
Come up. Come up.
Come away with me.
Your hands and my hands
Will follow the same ladder up.
You will climb and I will follow.
I will follow you.
You and I and weaving protests
Groaning murmurs from this tree
You and I will ascend upon him
Come away come away.
Come away with me.
